About Barbara Eden
Barbara Eden, the iconic star of NBC's classic TV
comedy series I Dream of Jeannie, is one of America's most
endearing and enduring stars. Her Jeannie series became a major hit
for five network seasons, and has been airing continuously on cable
and in syndication here and abroad for more than four decades.
Barbara is, without a doubt, one of America's top TV icons known
and loved by many generations.
2011 has been a very special year for Barbara. Her recent memoir, Barbara Eden: Jeannie out of the Bottle, published this spring by Crown, became an instant New York Times best seller and has enjoyed similar success not only in the United States, but in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where she recently made personal appearances. Her book chronicles her life and remarkable Hollywood career in motion pictures, television, the legitimate theater, and as a musical headliner in Las Vegas and supper clubs here and abroad.
One of Hollywood's busiest actresses, Barbara recently starred in Hallmark's television movie Always and Forever, Lifetime's TV series Army Wives, and had been touring the country starring in Neil Simon's female version of The Odd Couple and the Award-winning two-character play, Love Letters, headlining with Hal Linden and her Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman.
People Magazine recently named Barbara "One of America's 200 Greatest Pop Icons of the 20th Century," TV Guide featured her in its list of "Most Popular Comedy Stars," the Hollywood Walk of Fame honored her with a star, and the Broadcasters Hall of Fame presented her with its Lifetime Achievement Award. During her illustrious career Barbara has starred in 25 feature films, five network TV series, 19 top-rated network television movies, numerous television musical guest appearances with Bob Hope and other variety stars, and was featured in TV commercials for Old Navy, AT&T, General Motors, Chevrolet, and Toyota's Lexus SUV, which won Car of the Year by Motor Trend Magazine. She has also been a successful spokesperson for direct response promotions for several leading companies in financial services, Insurance healthcare and mortgages.
On the home front, Barbara continues to be busy with a number of charitable activities dealing with women's health issues and drug addiction, a subject very close to her heart following the loss of her son, Matthew Ansara, who died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 34 just weeks before his wedding day.
Born in Tucson, AZ, and raised in San Francisco, Barbara resides with her architect/real estate developer husband Jon Eicholtz in the Benedict Canyon area of Beverly Hills with their dog, Djinn-Djinn, an adorable, chocolate brown, pure bred Labradoodle.
